The site is situated on the Arctic Circle beside one of Norway’s major glaciers. Storglomvatn Dam is one of the world's highest asphaltic core dams, with a core height of 120 meters.
The width of the asphaltic core at the bottom is 95 cm, decreasing gradually to 50 cm, which is maintained for the top 50 meters. Both Storglomvatn Dam and Holmevatn Dam were completed on schedule in 1997 after four seasons, despite severe weather conditions, with much rain and snow.
The Storglomvatn Dam reservoir is Norway’s biggest, measuring 3.468 mill. m3, with its regulation height of 120 meters.
