The contract consists of supplying advisory personnel, services and specialized machinery.
Veidekke was engaged by Hydro Quebec as advisor and later as contractor for the asphalt core construction at the Nemiscau-1 dam in 2008. This small dam was built with an asphalt core in order to prove that the technique could successfully be implemented in Quebec, Canada. The construction and the results obtained were successful and Hydro Quebec decided thereafter that the dikes and dam at La Romaine-2 also should be designed as asphalt core dams.
The La Romaine-2 development is the first of four power stations to be developed on the La Romaine river. This first development consists of a power station and building of one major dam and five dikes. Construction work on the dam and dikes shall commence in summer of 2011 and shall be completed by end of 2013.
